Onagre Agent

Overview

The Onagre Agent is a key component of the Onagre monitoring ecosystem, responsible for executing checks on defined resources. It ensures reliable monitoring whether deployed in the public internet or within a private infrastructure.

Schema

Public Agents (Managed by Onagre)

Onagre provides multiple Public Agents, which are fully managed, hosted, and maintained within Onagre’s cloud infrastructure. These agents are available by default to all users and enable monitoring of publicly accessible resources without requiring any additional setup.

Key Features of Public Agents

  • Multiple agents deployed and maintained by Onagre.
  • Run on the public internet to check accessible web resources.
  • Require no installation or configuration from users.
  • Available to all Onagre accounts by default.
  • Provide redundancy and load balancing to ensure optimal monitoring coverage.

Private Agents (User-Deployed)

For organizations needing to monitor internal, private, or restricted resources, Onagre provides the ability to deploy multiple Private Agents within their own infrastructure. These agents allow monitoring of systems that are not publicly accessible, such as:

  • On-premise services (e.g., internal web servers, databases, applications).
  • Cloud-based resources (e.g., private cloud environments in AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Network-restricted assets that require monitoring behind firewalls or VPNs.

Key Features of Private Agents

  • Multiple instances can be deployed based on monitoring needs.
  • Provide full control over monitoring within internal environments.
  • Communicate securely with the Onagre platform over TLS encryption.
  • Only transmit essential monitoring data, never exposing credentials.
  • Allow distributed monitoring within different segments of a network.

Security and Data Protection

Onagre prioritizes security in all agent communications and configurations:

  • TLS Encryption: All communications between agents (both public and private) and the Onagre platform are encrypted.
  • Minimal Data Exchange: Agents transmit only the necessary monitoring results, ensuring data security.
  • Secret Management: Sensitive credentials (such as database passwords or API keys) are never transmitted to the Onagre platform. For private agents, secrets are stored locally in a configuration file managed by the user.
  • Scalability & Redundancy: Multiple agents (both public and private) can be deployed to enhance resilience and reliability.

Use Cases

  • Public Monitoring: Use Onagre’s Public Agents to monitor externally accessible resources with no setup required.
  • Enterprise IT Monitoring: Deploy one or multiple Private Agents inside an organization’s infrastructure to monitor internal services securely.
  • Hybrid Deployments: Combine both public and private agents for a comprehensive monitoring solution that covers both internet-facing and internal assets.
  • Multi-Site Deployments: Deploy private agents in multiple locations to monitor different data centers or branch offices.

Summary

Onagre offers both Public Agents, managed and hosted by Onagre for scalable external monitoring, and Private Agents, which users can deploy to monitor private infrastructure securely. The ability to deploy multiple agents ensures flexibility, redundancy, and complete data security while adapting to diverse monitoring needs.
