Subscription
This sensor is only available with Pro and Entreprise subscriptions
The Domain Resolution Sensor in Onagre allows users to monitor the resolution of a domain name to ensure it successfully resolves. This sensor helps detect DNS configuration issues and ensures that domain names remain accessible.
Configuration Options
When setting up a Domain Resolution Sensor, the following parameters can be configured:
- Domain Name: The fully qualified domain name (FQDN) to be monitored.
- Check Interval: Defines how often the domain resolution should be checked (e.g., every minute, every five minutes).
Response Validation
The Domain Resolution Sensor validates responses based on:
- Successful Resolution: Ensures the domain name resolves to at least one valid IP address.
Alerts and Notifications
If the sensor detects an issue with domain resolution, it can trigger alerts via:
- Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, Webhooks, Pushover
- Email Notifications
- Onagre’s Dashboard for Incident Tracking
Use Cases
- Ensuring that a domain name resolves correctly.
- Detecting DNS failures that may impact service availability.
- Monitoring DNS propagation after updating domain records.
Deployment
The Domain Resolution Sensor can monitor both public and private domains. For internal network monitoring, Onagre’s private agent can be deployed to perform DNS resolution checks within a secure environment.
Summary
The Domain Resolution Sensor is a key tool for monitoring DNS health. By detecting resolution failures in real-time, it helps teams prevent downtime and ensure proper domain functionality.
